FABIEN MARA "The Backstage of the Fashion Shows"
About Fabien Mara:Fabien Mara is a photographer, best known for his photos taken backstage at fashion shows in the 90s. He is the first photographer to have published a book on the subject in 1998. What will bring Fabien Mara to fashion photography is the meeting with a famous fashion editor who works for Elle and Conde Nast; she offers him a job as an assistant. He then became a fashion editor for a famous independent magazine and flew to New York where he worked with many famous fashion and portrait photographers and art directors such as Bert Stern, Steven Meisel, Fabien Baron, to name a few. In Paris, he photographed the backstage of fashion shows from 1991 to 1998 as part of a personal project.
At the beginning, I remember that we were three or four photographers backstage, towards the end, there were hundreds of journalists who wanted to have access. Having worked for 7 years backstage at fashion shows in the days of the "top models", women are naturally at the heart of Fabien Mara's work. Not limiting himself to the world of fashion, he has also photographed various personalities, actors and artists. Working today mainly on personal projects to be published or exhibited, he now tackles other themes such as landscape, urban or rural, which he also mixes with texts to make what he calls paintings. Fabien Mara's work has been presented in numerous exhibitions in France, but also in Taiwan, Bogota or Prague. He has exhibited his work in fairs such as Paris Photo and the Fiac, and is included in the collections of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris as well as in many private collections.
